Preservation lies at the heart of COPML’s mission. Each manuscript in the library’s care is treated as a unique historical and spiritual artifact requiring specialized attention.
COPML follows established archival and conservation best practices to stabilize and preserve manuscripts while maintaining their historical authenticity. The conservation process begins with careful assessment to identify structural weaknesses, environmental damage, or material decay. Conservation efforts prioritize minimal intervention, ensuring that all work respects the original materials and craftsmanship of the manuscript.
Preservation activities include gentle cleaning, stabilization of bindings and pages, protective housing, and the use of appropriate environmental controls to reduce long-term deterioration. Through this work, COPML safeguards manuscripts not only for current study, but for generations to come.
